BENEFITS OF MEDITATION

Most of us correlate meditation with sages and yoga practitioners. Very few people realise what a simple process it is and how much it can help us.

There are many health and spiritual benefits from meditation. Spiritually and mentally you achieve a peace in your mind and you learn to de-stress yourself. Meditation always results in a sense of calmness and tranquillity.

Some of the physical benefits which accrue from it are as follows:

It increases the blood flow to the heart and lowers the heart rate.

For high blood pressure patients it results in lowering the BP to a normal level.

Chronic diseases such as allergies and arthritis have been helped by regular meditation.

The respiratory processes of the body are benefitted because there is an increased flow of air to the lungs.

Since the respiratory systems are improved, this helps in showing significant improvement in asthma patients.

For women, it helps in reducing the pre-menstrual syndrome.

The greatest value in meditation lies in the peace that the individual attains. When your breathing processes are evened out, when your body becomes more relaxed and your mind is also at peace, then the world seems like a much better place and happiness becomes a constant companion.

You require no equipment for this, you just need to sit down in any quiet place in your home and let your mind relax and your body ease out of the tension within it. Soon you will notice that you are less prone to anxiety and anger, and you deal with difficult situations in a much better fashion.

This is a great post that I intend to share – I’ve blogged on stress as well as the effect of attitude, optimism, and “positive thinking” on our health. The next step is to share with people methods that bring positive energy into their lives and this post is a great example of one way to do that.

Meditation is also completely FREE! It requires no special equipment, and is not complicated to learn. It can be practiced anywhere, at any given moment, and it is not time consuming (15-20 min. per day is good). Best of all, meditation has NO negative side effects. Bottom line, there is nothing but positive to be gained from it! With such a huge list of benefits, the question you should ask yourself is, “why am I not meditating yet?”

  3. Jane from dumb quotes Says:

Meditation can help us to cultivate a real abiding happiness. Meditation allows us to be in tune with our inner self. When we live in the heart we can experience a sense of oneness with others, this brings a happiness that does not depend upon outer events.

  4. Victoria from basement leak Mississauga Says:

Meditation is one of the few things in the self-help arena you can do that produces measurable changes. In other words, you can take a few hours of meditation training, and then go into a medical lab and meditate, and they can measure the changes in your breathing, your blood chemistry, your brain waves, and your response to stress.

When we have concentration we can do more in less time. Through meditation we gradually improve our powers of concentration; this focus can be used for both meditation, and also other activities we engage in.

  6. Jake from kill some time Says:

Although a good number of people try meditation at some point in their lives, only a small percentage actually persist with it. This is unfortunate, as the benefits are enormous. One possible reason is that many beginners do not start with an appropriate mindset to make the practice sustainable.

Meditate with understanding. Get clear in your mind exactly what you think meditation is and what it will be like before you start. Invariably everybody does have ideas and expectations like this, it is very helpful to make them conscious before you start.. Thanks for sharing.
